“Seniorpreneurs” Are a Growing Segment

Did you know that the new “seniorpreneurs,” defined as people 55+ who start a business, represent a growing segment? Seniorpreneur businesses grew by 35% from 2001 to 2005. An increasing number of retirees choose self-employment or small business as a way to stay active and supplement retirement income. Many prefer to work from home, which is one factor fuelling demand for well-appointed home offices. (November 18, 2006)

Boomers Impact Real Estate Market Trends

Did you know that the baby boomers will continue to affect housing trends as they approach retirement? Their needs are diverse, but as a group they are wealthier and choosier than their parents were at the same stage. Even when boomers downsize to a smaller home, they often choose a home with very high build quality. Attributes of a boomer’s ideal home often include a main floor master bedroom, energy efficiency, plenty of storage space, a large kitchen with good lighting, and an open concept floor plan. Common upgrades are hardwood flooring, granite countertops, extra lighting and sound system wiring. (April 7, 2007)
